Lecture of KU professor Kostas Georgopoulos

Professor Costas Georgopoulos holds the Chair in Structural Engineering Practice of the School of Civil Engineering & Construction in the Faculty of Science Engineering & Computing at Kingston University London.  He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers (FIStructE), Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE), Fellow of the Concrete Society (FCS) and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) with 30yrs+ unique multi-sector professional experience.  Costas is an Expert Designer of Earthquake-resistant Structures to Eurocode 8, Senior Academic with particular expertise in Structural Engineering Education and leading Practicing Structural Engineer, elected Member of the Council of the Institution of Structural Engineers in the UK (for CV see http://sec.kingston.ac.uk/about-SEC/people/academic/view_profile.php?id=1115).


Professor Georgopoulos will give a 2hr lecture that is driven by Professional Practice, supported by Research and calibrated by the successful delivery of undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development programmes in universities in the UK, as follows:


Lecture: Sustainability and Concrete Construction



Aim: To introduce latest developments in the design and specification of sustainable concrete structures


Expertise of presenter: International experience in structural design using concrete in industry and academia; developed innovative teaching and learning resources (Virtual Concrete Lab and CALcrete: Computer Aided Learning for concrete); created and managed 35 Continuing Professional Development courses on concrete for practitioners that are adopted by the Institution of Structural Engineers; delivered inspiring lectures to students of over 30 Civil Engineering Departments in the UK; Education Manager for The Concrete Centre (2005-09); research at the Sustainable Technologies Research Centre at Kingston University; published a book on ‘Sustainable Concrete Solutions’ for practicing engineers, students and researchers by Wiley
